The day
Gates open before sunrise. You travel in a private open vehicle with a guide who tracks rather than guesses, and you stay out for the full day, because the best sightings rarely happen before ten. Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino all live on this route.
Because the vehicle is yours, the day bends to you. If a leopard is lying up in a marula tree, you stay. If the light is right for photographs, you chase it. Your guide carries a spotting scope, a reference library and a radio network shared with other guides, so word of a sighting travels fast. Morning coffee is served on the tailgate and lunch is a proper picnic in a fenced camp, not a sandwich in your lap.
