The day
The cable car turns through 360 degrees as it climbs, so everybody gets the full view on the way up. At the top there are walking paths along the plateau, a restaurant, and the city, the bay and Robben Island spread out below.
Table Mountain is one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature and the cableway has been running since 1929, though the current rotating cars date from 1997. We watch the mountain and take you on a clear day rather than a booked one, because when the 'tablecloth' cloud comes over the top there is nothing to see. Up top, the plateau paths run out to Maclear's Beacon and the Western Table, and the dassies are entirely unbothered by people.
