The day
Three things in one day that should not work together and do. Quad bikes across the Atlantis dunes, the Long March to Freedom sculpture park, and a tasting at Klein Constantia, home of the wine Napoleon asked for on his deathbed.
The dunes north of the city are enormous and completely empty, and the quad session includes instruction, so beginners are fine. The Long March to Freedom is a National Heritage Monument: more than a hundred life-size bronzes of the people who fought for South African liberation, arranged so you walk among them at eye level. It is quietly overwhelming. Klein Constantia closes the day, pouring the Vin de Constance that Jane Austen and Napoleon both wrote about.
