The day
The full peninsula day: Chapman's Peak Drive, an ostrich farm, the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, and the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach, where the birds nest between the boulders and swim with the bathers.
This is the drive that sells Cape Town. Chapman's Peak is cut into the cliff face above the Atlantic with a hundred and fourteen corners; the Cape Point reserve is fynbos, baboons and eland running to the sea; and the sign at the Cape of Good Hope marks the most south-western point of the continent. Boulders is the surprise: a colony of endangered African penguins living in a suburban bay, viewed from boardwalks that put you a metre from the nests.
