The day
A guided walk on the Klipriviersberg ridge above Johannesburg. Grassland, rock outcrops, zebra and wildebeest grazing, and a skyline view that surprises everyone who thought the city had no wild left in it.
The trail runs through highveld grassland on old volcanic rock, and the reserve carries plains game that graze right up to the path. It is a moderate walk rather than a climb, roughly three hours with stops, and your guide covers the grassland ecology and the geology of the Witwatersrand along the way. Lunch afterwards is on the terrace, looking back at the ridge you just walked.
